It is evident that your team did a lot of preparation and worked hard to make this the first of what I hope are many successful annual events. I was moved by the passion and evident dedication of your group and their determination to make the Strikes Against Cancer a meaningful success and contribution to the effort to find a cure. I look forward to taking a more active role in next year’s event.
Rodney J. Ray (Owasso City Manager)

05.05.08
I would like to add my thanks to each of you for your support of this event and for joining us in the fight against breast cancer. Over 240,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and we will lose over 45,000 to the disease. You can never start too early to educate women on breast health and the importance of early detection in surviving breast cancer.

I want you to know that 75% of the money raised from this event will stay right here in Tulsa County and will be used to fund breast health / cancer education and mammography and breast cancer treatment programs for uninsured and low-income women. Last year we were able to fund over 2,000 mammograms and 42 cases of breast cancer were found. These 42 women did not have the financial resources for treatment and their lives were saved because of the efforts of donors like you.

The remaining 25% of the money you raised will be sent to Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Scientific Grants program which is managed by our headquarters in Dallas. We announced last week that we will be granting $100 million to breast cancer research in 2008 and $480,000 will be given to OU’s new Cancer Institute in Norman! All of the science grants funded for this year must focus on reducing breast cancer mortality and incidence in the next 10 years. Please note that none of the money sent to our Dallas office is used for administrative costs – it goes straight to research.

I want to extend a special thank you to Chris for all of his dedication and hard work in organizing and executing this event. He has been tireless in his efforts to make this a success and in his commitment to raising awareness of breast health and breast cancer. Over the last few months he has kept me on my toes and on task and I appreciate his attention to detail!

I enjoyed meeting several of you at the game on Thursday and again, just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your efforts and support. We have a Board meeting Thursday night and I look forward to giving them an update on this successful event and your support.

I look forward to working with you again next year!
Christy Southard (Executive Director/Tulsa Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure)

05.01.08
WOW! What a great job you and your group did! I was very proud to be a part of this event. As a cancer survivor, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We never know, this is may be the $2,000 that funds the cure for this disease. It was very heart warming to see these young ladies in their "pink" doing something to make a difference. I can only hope and pray that we find a cure before anyone of them has to experience it. Thank you for a great event. This is what sets Owasso apart from the other communities. People like you teaching the next generation to not only talk of doing something, but to put your thoughts and plans into action. Chris Greer, I am so proud of you on this event!
Susan Kimball

04.28.08
Chris, words cannot express how grateful we all are for the fundraiser you've started. Last night was our first experience with SAC and the girls and coaching staff had a great time! I know our cancer survivor Chris Kuhn enjoyed it as well. Matter of fact, she is suppose to throw out the first pitch again for one of the teams playing on Thursday.

It was a pleasure meeting you last night.
Sincerely,
Traci Groves (Blue Angels)

03.12.08
Thank you for putting this together in our area. My girls’ teams have played Pitch for the Cure the past couple of years in honor of my mom. It is great to have the opportunity to show support here! I certainly hope both of their teams will be available to play Strikes Against Cancer.

I sincerely appreciate that you recognize the importance of supporting this cause. It has, unfortunately, changed our family forever.

All the best for a very successful tournament and fundraiser!
Jody Davis-Bergman
Bailey #7 (Owasso Starz)
Bria #8 (Boomer Sooners)
